Solicitors Title LLP win Highly Acclaimed law firm status
Solicitors Title LLP is proud to announce that it is one of a handful of over ten thousand law firms to be singled out as ‘Highly Commended’ in the Law Society’s 2021 Excellence In Law Awards last week.
Solicitors Title LLP made legal history during the first national lockdown by using video conferencing technology to witness the execution of a Will for a self-isolating client. This controversial innovation defied the official guidance that adhered to the misconceived opinion expressed in the Law Commission’s Making A Will report that claimed that the Will making formalities prescribed by the Wills Act 1837 insist on a witness’ physical presence. Our ground-breaking and controversial research that established that video witnessing was consistent with the legislation and the common law rulings interpreting it and our novel protocols and procedures demonstrated that video witnessing could enhance the Wills Act’s anti-fraud objectives . We initiated our own snap campaign that persuaded the Government to pass emergency legislation sanctioning our innovative procedures, retrospectively.
Speaking for Solicitors Title, Dr Nicholas Bevan commented: ‘I am delighted that our initiative has received such high praise from such an esteemed national institution. Solicitors Title’s raison d’etre is to find practical solutions for all our clients, whether that be in a commercial or private law context. When we were presented by a self-isolating client who needed to make his Will during the first onset of the Covid-19 pandemic we realised that we needed to think outside the box and to challenge common assumptions within our profession to help him. I was very relieved when our actions were eventually vindicated by the government, notwithstanding the widespread scepticism of our peers at the time.’
This initiative exemplifies how Solicitors Title are prepared to go the extra mile for their clients.
